What Is Mind?

Mind: from Greek memona "I yearn" and Latin mens "mind, understanding, reason"

Studies in mind include these three important areas of research:

  1. cognitive science (does consciousness confer an evolutionary advantage, how is the mind structured and how can its operations be simulated?)
  2. psychology (what creates our personality and how do mental functions affect behaviour?)
  3. mental health (what are the conditions for happiness and how can mental dysfunctions be treated?)
